The Happy Dervish

Once upon a time, there was a shah who was very unhappy. He had everything he could ever want – a beautiful palace, a wealthy kingdom, and many servants to attend to his every need. But he was never satisfied. He always wanted more.

One day, the shah was riding through the town when he saw a dervish sitting on the ground. The dervish was dressed in rags and had nothing but a begging bowl. But the shah noticed that the dervish was smiling.

The shah was curious, so he stopped his palanquin and asked the dervish why he was so happy.

“I am happy because I have everything I need,” the dervish said. I also have peace of mind. I do not worry about the past or the future. I am content to live in the present moment.”

The shah was amazed. He had never met anyone who was so happy with so little. He asked the dervish to teach him how to be happy.

The dervish smiled and said, “Happiness is a choice. All you need to do is appreciate the good things in your life and let go of the things that are out of your control.”

The shah thought about what the dervish said. He realized that the dervish was right. Happiness was a choice. He could choose to be happy, even though he had everything he could ever want.

From that day on, the shah made a conscious effort to be happy. He started to appreciate the good things in his life, and he let go of the things that were out of his control. He soon realized that happiness was a state of mind, and it was within his reach.

The shah lived a long and happy life. He learned that happiness is not something that happens to you. It is something that you create.
